Load-Only Service
Also known as: loading-only, load assistance
Definition
Load-only service is a partial-service moving arrangement where the carrier crew loads the customer's truck (or POD, U-Haul, Penske, etc.) at origin but does NOT transport or unload. Customer drives the truck and arranges unload separately.
In practice
What it means on a move.
Common scenarios: customer is moving a household themselves using a rental truck or POD, but needs help loading. Carrier provides 2-3 movers for 2-4 hours to load the truck efficiently. Customer drives. At destination, customer either unloads themselves, hires labor at destination, or uses a different load-unload service.
Stakes
Why this matters.
Load-only service is a cost-effective option for self-driving customers. The carrier's loading expertise (tiering, padding, securing) makes the move safer; the customer keeps the transportation cost low.
