The calculator is intentionally conservative. The written estimate should match or beat the calculator output. We don't want surprises and we don't want to underquote.

How it works

The math, made visible.

Most moving-cost calculators online are black boxes — you fill in a form and a number pops out. No explanation. No breakdown. No way to verify.

Ours shows the math. The base scope range. The long-distance multiplier (if applicable). Each specialty item's add-on. The walk-up flight fees. The white-glove uplift. The storage-in-transit cost. Every line itemized.

The output is a range, not a single number. Move pricing depends on the actual site survey, exact inventory, building access, timing, and a dozen other factors. A calculator can give a useful range; only a written estimate can give a number you can sign on.

We intentionally calibrate conservative — the calculator's high end is slightly above what the written estimate typically lands at. That's by design. We want the written estimate to either match or beat the calculator output. Underpromise, overdeliver.

What the calculator doesn't capture

Why a real estimate still matters.

A real written estimate accounts for things the calculator can't see:

  • · Building access constraints — narrow streets, low canopy clearance, hillside driveways, gated communities with vendor pre-clearance, downtown towers with freight- elevator booking windows
  • · Exact inventory weight (not just bedroom count)
  • · Specialty-item complexity (a 2,400-lb gun safe in a basement workshop costs more than a 1,200-lb gun safe in a ground-floor garage)
  • · Timing premiums (peak summer June-August, holiday season, UT West Campus August move-in week)
  • · Corporate-relo overhead (Cartus, Sirva, Aires, Graebel tariffs are higher than retail tariffs)
  • · Insurance / valuation upgrades

The calculator is a useful 80%-accurate starting point. The written estimate is the 100%-accurate number you actually pay.
