Real Estate Staging Move
Also known as: Stager furniture move, Real estate prep move
Definition
A real estate staging move is the relocation of furniture and decor for the purpose of staging a home for sale — typically managed by professional home stagers or real estate agents and reversed once the home sells.
In practice
What it means on a move.
Staging moves involve: bringing staging furniture into a home before listing, removing customer's own furniture to storage (or to a smaller area of the home), arranging staged furniture per the stager's plan, and reversing the staging once the home sells. Common for luxury home sales where buyer-attractive staging significantly improves offer prices. Staging move is separate from the customer's actual move-out.
Stakes
Why this matters.
Staging moves require coordination between three parties: the customer (seller), the staging company, and the moving company. Multiple containers/storage units, careful inventory tracking, and timeline flexibility for showings + offers all matter. Generalist movers often struggle with staging move coordination.
