Specialty Handling

Rigging Fee

Also known as: Specialty rigging charge, Heavy-lift fee

Definition

A rigging fee is the additional charge for moving extremely heavy or awkward items — gun safes over 600 lbs, hot tubs, pool tables, industrial equipment — using specialty equipment like rigging dollies, hoists, or crane lifts.

In practice

What it means on a move.

Rigging fees vary by item: gun safes 600-1,500 lbs typically $300-600; safes 1,500-3,000 lbs $600-1,200; hot tubs $500-1,000; pool tables (with disassembly + reassembly) $400-800; industrial equipment depending on weight and access. Specialty equipment used includes 4-wheel cushioned rigging dollies, hand trucks with stair-climbers, hoists, and occasionally crane lifts for difficult access. Crew size for rigging is typically 3-4 movers per item.

Stakes

Why this matters.

Rigging requires technique, not just strength. Improper handling of heavy items causes injuries to crew, damage to floors and walls, and damage to the item itself. A 2,000-lb gun safe lifted incorrectly destroys hardwood floors and the safe interior. Customers should disclose all heavy items at estimate time so the right crew and equipment can be assigned.

Our process

How Muscleman Elite handles it.

Muscleman Elite has a specialty rigging crew on every Texas route. We confirm exact weight (printed inside the safe door or in the manual) before move day. Floor protection is rolled out for any rigging path. Destination floor capacity is verified for safes over 600 lbs.

Questions we get

About Rigging Fee.

How is rigging different from regular moving?
Rigging uses specialty equipment (cushioned dollies, hoists, sometimes cranes) and trained 3-4 person crews to safely move heavy/awkward items. Regular moving is hand-carried with standard dollies.
