Lease-End Cleanup
Also known as: Move-out cleaning, Tenant restoration
Definition
Lease-end cleanup is the process of returning a rental property to original condition at the end of a lease, including thorough cleaning, repairing minor damage, and any items the landlord's move-out checklist requires — separate from the moving process itself.
In practice
What it means on a move.
Most residential leases require tenants to return the property in 'broom-clean' condition (vacuumed/swept, kitchen scrubbed, bathrooms cleaned). Many require more extensive cleaning: shampooed carpets, oven cleaned, refrigerator emptied + cleaned, blinds dusted. Skipping lease-end cleanup commonly costs $200-800 in security deposit deductions. Quality movers coordinate timing so the customer can clean after the movers depart.
Stakes
Why this matters.
Customers focused on the move often forget the lease-end cleanup, only to discover lost security deposits 30 days later. Best practice: schedule professional cleaning company for the day after move-out, or plan a 4-6 hour cleanup yourself before turning in keys. Some moving companies (not us) bundle cleaning services.
