Walk-Through

Also known as: Pre-Move Walk-Through, Post-Move Walk-Through, Survey

Definition

A Walk-Through is a guided tour of the move location with the moving company — performed before the move (to scope and inventory) and at the end (to confirm completion and condition).

In practice

What it means on a move.

Before the move, the walk-through happens during the estimate phase. You show the move planner every room, every item, every access constraint (stairs, narrow doorways, parking, gated entries, elevator reservations needed). This is where binding estimates are calculated, specialty items are identified, and crew sizing is decided. On move day, the crew lead does a second walk-through with you to confirm nothing has changed since the estimate. At the end of the move, a closing walk-through verifies all items were delivered, placement is right, and no damage was incurred. Each walk-through gets signed off.

Stakes

Why this matters.

Walk-throughs catch the things that turn into surprise costs: the antique sideboard tucked in the guest room that wasn't on the original list; the second-floor balcony where the couch came in through; the gated subdivision the truck can't access. They also protect both sides: the customer gets accurate pricing and crew sizing; the mover gets a documented scope they can deliver on. Skipping the walk-through is the #1 cause of move-day disputes.

Our process

How Muscleman Elite handles it.

Muscleman Elite conducts a walk-through during every estimate — in-home, or via photo/video for jobs that don't warrant a site visit. The crew lead does a confirmation walk-through on arrival and a closing walk-through before leaving. Any exceptions are noted on the inventory and Bill of Lading. We never bill a charge that wasn't on a walked-through scope.

Questions we get

About Walk-Through.

Do I need an in-home walk-through?
Not always. For small or straightforward moves, a photo/video walk-through often works. For large moves, specialty items, or complex access, an in-home walk-through is strongly recommended — it's the most reliable way to lock in a binding estimate and right-size the crew.
How long does a pre-move walk-through take?
A studio or 1-bedroom: 15-20 minutes. A full house with specialty items: 45-60 minutes. The more thorough, the more accurate the estimate.
What happens at the closing walk-through?
The crew lead and you verify all items are delivered, placement matches expectations, no damage was incurred (or damage is noted on the BOL), and you sign off on the move. This is your last chance to flag issues before the crew leaves.
