Definition
Workspace decommission is the process of preparing a leased office space for return to the landlord at lease-end, including furniture removal, cabling teardown, signage removal, wall patches, and broom-clean restoration.

Most commercial office leases require the tenant to return the space in the same condition as received, minus normal wear. Decommissioning includes: removing all furniture and equipment, returning the space to original floor plan if walls were added, patching nail holes and wall damage, removing tenant-installed cabling (often required by the landlord), removing signage, and broom-cleaning. Failure to decommission triggers a deduction from the lease security deposit — typically $50-500 per office for restoration charges.
