Access Survey
Also known as: Site survey, Pre-move access check
Definition
An access survey is the pre-move inspection of origin and destination locations to identify obstacles to moving — narrow streets, low-clearance bridges, gate restrictions, elevator availability, HOA requirements.
In practice
What it means on a move.
Access survey checks: parking availability, street width and turn radius, low-clearance bridges (some trucks can't fit under 13.5 feet), elevator height + door dimensions, stairs + landings, HOA gate codes, building manager hours, COI requirements, dumpster locations, fire lane obstructions.
Stakes
Why this matters.
Access issues are the #1 cause of move-day delays. Truck can't fit. Elevator broken. Gate code missing. The access survey prevents this.
