Corporate Tariff

Also known as: RMC tariff, corporate-relo tariff

Definition

A corporate tariff is the pricing structure agreed between a carrier and a Relocation Management Company (RMC) for moves authorized under the RMC's program. Typically higher than the carrier's retail tariff to absorb the RMC's overhead and the more rigorous documentation requirements.

In practice

What it means on a move.

Each major RMC (Cartus, Sirva, Aires, Graebel) negotiates a corporate tariff with each approved carrier. The tariff includes per-pound line-haul rates, accessorial-service rates, FVP per-pound minimums (typically higher than retail), SIT pricing, and post-move reconciliation terms. The employee never sees the corporate tariff directly; it's the carrier-RMC-employer billing arrangement.

Stakes

Why this matters.

Corporate tariffs are higher than retail tariffs. The employer pays more for a corporate-relo move than a self-financed customer would pay for an equivalent retail move. The premium covers the RMC's overhead, the more rigorous documentation, and the carrier's additional administrative work. The employee benefits because their out-of-pocket is zero.

Our process

How Muscleman Elite handles it.

Muscleman Elite operates on corporate tariffs with Cartus, Sirva, Aires, and Graebel. Our corporate-tariff rates are documented with each RMC; the RMC counselor handles the math. The customer (employee) never sees the line items.

Questions we get

About Corporate Tariff.

Why is the corporate tariff higher than retail?
The corporate tariff includes the RMC overhead, more rigorous documentation cadence, higher FVP minimums, and the carrier's additional administrative work (origin/destination inspections, post-move reconciliation, RMC reporting). The employee's out-of-pocket is zero, so the cost difference is absorbed by the employer.
Can I see the corporate tariff?
Usually not — it's a contract between the RMC and the carrier. The employee sees the move-cost details on the post-move reconciliation if they request it.
