Overflow Truck
Also known as: Secondary truck, Auxiliary load truck
Definition
An overflow truck is a second moving truck dispatched to handle items that exceed the capacity of the primary truck, ensuring all items are moved on the scheduled day.
In practice
What it means on a move.
Standard 26-foot truck holds ~1,700 cubic feet — sufficient for most 3-4 bedroom homes. When contents exceed capacity, overflow truck is dispatched. Cost: typically 50-75% of primary truck rate. Common on 5+ bedroom moves, estate moves, corporate-relo with extensive contents.
Stakes
Why this matters.
Overflow truck dispatch prevents 'we'll come back tomorrow for the rest' scenarios. Reputable carriers anticipate overflow at estimate time. Surprise overflow at move day is poor planning.
