Short-Term Storage
Also known as: Bridge storage, Gap-period storage
Definition
Short-term storage is climate-controlled storage of a customer's household contents for less than 90 days, typically used during home renovation, gap between selling and buying, temporary employer-paid housing, or moving date alignment.
In practice
What it means on a move.
Short-term storage scenarios: 1) home renovation (clear contents during construction), 2) sold-but-not-bought (between closing dates), 3) temporary housing while waiting for permanent housing (corporate-relo gap), 4) moving date alignment (move-out Thursday, move-in Monday). Cost: typically $250-500/month depending on volume + access requirements. Storage facilities are climate-controlled, secure, and inventoried.
Stakes
Why this matters.
Short-term storage solves real moving math problems. Without it, customers must either align all closings perfectly (rare) or arrange temporary storage themselves (more expensive). Quality movers include short-term storage as a line-item option on every estimate where applicable.
