Split Shipment
Also known as: Multi-stop delivery, Two-delivery move
Definition
A split shipment is a single move that includes two or more separate delivery addresses, common when a customer is dropping items at a storage facility before continuing to the new home, or delivering to a second property.
In practice
What it means on a move.
Split shipments typically add a billing line for "extra stop" or "second delivery address." Example: a customer moves out of a 5-bedroom home, drops kid-bedroom furniture at a daughter's college apartment, then delivers the rest to a new home. Or: an executive moves out of a Houston home, drops some items at a downtown Houston office storage facility, then delivers the remainder to Austin. We coordinate routing and timing to make split shipments efficient.
Stakes
Why this matters.
Split shipments are operationally complex — paperwork, inventory tracking, and routing all multiply. Customers should request a split-shipment plan in writing during the estimate. Pricing typically includes a per-stop charge ($150-400 depending on distance + access). Splits should be designed at estimate, not added at move day.
