Tesla Gigafactory Family Move to Pflugerville

A Tesla Gigafactory production manager relocating his family from Fremont California to Pflugerville Texas. Tesla relocation package, family of four, 1,500-mile transit, 12-day timeline. Direct comparison: full-DIY would have cost more than our quote.

The setup

How the move started.

The production manager — 32 years old, married, two kids (ages 6 and 3) — had been at Tesla Fremont for 4 years. In late August 2025, Tesla offered him a promotion: lead a manufacturing shift at the Texas Gigafactory in Del Valle (just south of Austin). The relocation package included movers, temporary housing, and a signing bonus. He had 12 days from accepting the offer to start at the Texas plant.

The family had been in a Fremont rental for 3 years; their lease was month-to-month so they could move quickly. The wife (an elementary teacher) had been job-searching in Texas already — she had a teaching offer pending at Pflugerville ISD. The kids were in TK and 1st grade at Fremont elementaries.

The destination: Falcon Pointe in Pflugerville. They'd put a contingent offer on a 4-bedroom 2022-build new construction the prior weekend. Closing scheduled for September 25; move-in target September 27.

The Tesla call

How they found us

Tesla's relocation team (an internal Tesla-managed RMC) provided a list of three approved Texas movers. The wife researched all three. Muscleman Elite was the only one offering same-crew origin-to-destination service — not interlining the shipment to a Texas partner carrier.

She called us Tuesday afternoon. We scheduled a virtual walkthrough via FaceTime for the Fremont rental on Wednesday morning (her time). The estimator walked her through every room remotely, noted contents, asked about specialty items (none), and confirmed packing scope.

Estimate provided same day: $8,200 binding. Including: - Full pack at origin (Fremont rental, 3-day pack) - 1,500-mile transit with our long-distance crew - Delivery + light unpacking at destination - Storage in transit at our Austin facility for the 2-day gap (load Sept 21 in Fremont, deliver Sept 27 in Pflugerville)

Tesla's relocation team authorized the move via written email. Customer signed the work order. Crew assignment confirmed Monday.

The packing

Fremont pack + load

September 18-20. Our long-distance crew arrived at the Fremont rental on Thursday morning. 3-person crew + crew lead. The wife had pre-organized: color-coded labels on every room's closet door (white for master, blue for boys, pink for girls, yellow for kitchen).

The crew packed room-by-room: - Kitchen: dish packs for breakable items, medium boxes for cookware, small boxes for spices + pantry essentials - Master bedroom: wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes, dresser drawers shrink-wrapped (clothes stayed in) - Kids' rooms: each kid sat with their crew member, picked their "treasure box" (stuffies + favorite toys), packed their first-night bag - Living + dining: standard pack + furniture pads + stretch wrap - Garage: garage was minimal (3 tubs + 1 grill)

Day 3 (Saturday Sept 20) load day. Crew arrived 7 AM. Truck loaded by 4 PM. Inventory: 62 boxes, 4 dressers, 4 beds, 1 sofa, 1 sectional, dining table + 6 chairs, kids' bunk beds, 3 garage tubs. Weight: ~10,800 lbs.

Truck departed Fremont Saturday evening for the 3-day transit. Crew lead and driver shared the route.

The transit

California to Texas

Standard route: I-5 south to I-10 east. Three days of transit with overnight stops at safe truck yards in Bakersfield and El Paso. Truck climate maintained at 70°F throughout.

September 23 morning: truck arrived at our Austin facility. Climate-controlled storage for the 4-day gap before Pflugerville delivery. We monitored temperature daily and provided the customer with check-in updates via text.

Customer travel parallel: family flew from SFO to AUS on Tuesday September 23. Stayed at the Holiday Inn Pflugerville for 4 nights ($680 total). Tesla covered the hotel cost as part of the relocation package.

September 27 (Saturday) closing day: Pflugerville home closed at 10 AM. Family did final walkthrough with realtor at 11 AM. Confirmed utility setup. We dispatched delivery crew for 12 PM arrival.

The delivery

Pflugerville unload

September 27, 12 PM Pflugerville. Same crew that loaded in Fremont arrived for delivery. Customer's family met them with coffee.

Unload sequence: - Kids' rooms first (per protocol) — beds assembled, dressers placed, toys out, books on shelves - Master bedroom — bed + dressers + closet items - Kitchen — boxes placed in correct cabinets per the wife's color-coding (she'd pre-marked the new kitchen cabinets with painter's tape) - Living + dining — furniture placed, electronics connected - Garage — tubs placed, grill positioned

Total unload time: 5.5 hours. Crew departed 6 PM.

Family slept in the new house that night. The kids' rooms were fully set up. The kitchen had basic dishes ready for breakfast Sunday morning. The first-night essentials (which the wife had brought in the car) covered Saturday night.

Damage report: zero. Every box arrived, every item undamaged.

Customer started at Tesla Gigafactory Monday September 29. Kids started Pflugerville ISD elementary October 1. Wife started her PfISD teaching role October 6 (after 2 weeks of district onboarding).

The math

Why our quote beat DIY

The customer told us afterward: he'd considered DIY moving as a way to keep more of his Tesla relocation budget for the house down payment. He'd researched it.

His DIY math: - 26-ft U-Haul rental for 5 days, Fremont to Austin: $1,800 - Gas (1,500 miles @ 8 mpg, $5/gal): $940 - Hotels for 3-day drive (family of 4): $750 - DIY packing materials (new boxes, paper, tape): $400 - Time off work for him: 5 days × $400/day = $2,000 - Time off work for wife: 5 days × $300/day = $1,500 - Hired help at origin (2 helpers, 1 day): $400 - Hired help at destination (2 helpers, 1 day): $400 - Damage risk on DIY pack (estimated 2% of $40K contents): $800 - Total DIY estimate: $9,990

Our quote: $8,200 (Tesla pays this; no out-of-pocket for the family).

The customer's calculation: not only was our quote cheaper than DIY in absolute dollars, but Tesla covered our quote while he would've covered DIY personally. Net savings vs DIY: $9,990. Plus zero risk, zero stress, and his wife had time to onboard at PfISD instead of packing boxes.

I was going to do this myself to save Tesla money. I'm so glad my wife pushed back. The math wasn't even close once I priced my own time honestly. Same crew the entire way. Our kids slept in their new beds that Saturday night.
