When people ask me what counts as a "local move," the answer is pretty straightforward. For us, a local move is anything within a 50 to 100-mile radius of our branch locations in Austin, Midland, or Odessa. But even a short move requires the right strategy to keep costs down and stress levels low.

What Services Are Included in an Hourly Rate for Moving

One thing I pride myself on is transparency. For local moves, our hourly rates are consistent, and that rate covers both the moving and the packing services. We don't believe in nickel-and-diming you. Our standard "elite service" automatically includes protecting your home with rug runners and door jamb covers, as well as wrapping your items with shrink wrap and tape.

We don't have hidden fees, but there are a few specific things that impact the final bill:

• Packing Materials: While we provide the labor, there is a charge for the packing materials used.
• Specialty Items: If you have something massive—specifically items exceeding 500 lbs like a piano or hot tub—that will incur an additional fee.
• Time: Since we charge hourly, anything that extends the time—like disassembly or extra packing—affects the price.

What Factors Could Increase the Price on Moving Day

We try to avoid "cookie-cutter" solutions. Typically, we assign two movers for a one-bedroom apartment and three movers for a large two-bedroom or small three-bedroom home. However, we adjust that based on stairs, furniture weight, and distance to make sure we are optimizing the cost for you.

As for booking, we know life happens. We excel at accommodating last-minute moves, especially emergency situations where other movers might have flaked. But generally, weekends are our busiest times (especially Saturdays), so booking mid-week often secures a better deal. • The "Open First" Box: Set aside keys, meds, and important documents to transport yourself.
