Inventory Discrepancy
Also known as: Inventory mismatch, Missing item dispute
Definition
An inventory discrepancy is a difference between the items listed on the origin inventory sheet (signed at pickup) and the items confirmed at destination (signed at delivery), used to track missing or damaged goods.
In practice
What it means on a move.
At pickup, the crew lead and customer review and sign the inventory sheet — each item numbered, with condition notes. At delivery, the customer reviews the unloading and confirms every numbered item arrives. Any missing items get noted as exceptions on the delivery inventory. Damaged items get noted with descriptions. The signed exception list is the legal foundation for any claim. **Customers must take this seriously** — items not noted at delivery become much harder to claim later.
Stakes
Why this matters.
Inventory discrepancies are how lost items and damage claims start. Without the inventory exception documented at delivery, the customer's later claim has no support. Items 'discovered' missing 30 days after delivery face significant burden of proof. Best practice: review inventory carefully at delivery, document every exception in writing, take photos of any damage.
Our process
How Muscleman Elite handles it.
Muscleman Elite's crew lead walks every numbered inventory item at delivery with the customer. Any exceptions are documented on the inventory sheet before the truck leaves. We do not depart with the truck until inventory is reviewed.
