The setup
How the move started.
The student — junior year UT student, summer internship in Chicago — needed to vacate her West Campus apartment at the end of her academic year lease (May 31) and re-occupy a new West Campus apartment for the fall semester (August 15). 90 days of storage in between.
Standard student-move pattern, but the timing is unforgiving — UT West Campus is the densest apartment-move market in Austin during August move-in week. Building freight elevators book up 3-4 weeks ahead. Some buildings cap simultaneous move-ins to one or two per day.
May move-out
Same-day apartment exit + warehouse staging
Booking lead time: booked in early April for a May 31 move-out. Standard same-day quote turnaround.
Move-out: 3-mover crew, 4-hour move. The 12th-floor apartment building (Skyloft) had its standard COI requirement; we filed the COI 48 hours ahead per building policy. Freight elevator pre-booked. The crew packed the residual personal items (the student had pre-packed most boxes); furniture was wrapped + loaded directly to the truck.
Truck to warehouse: the contents transferred from the truck to climate-controlled storage at our Austin warehouse the same afternoon. Inventory documented + photographed for the storage manifest. Storage rental began June 1.
Summer storage
90 days of climate-controlled storage
Storage rate: $135/month for a 5x10 unit (sufficient for a 1-bedroom apartment's contents). 90 days × $135 = $405 in storage rental, paid upfront.
Climate control: the warehouse maintains 65-75°F + 40-50% humidity year-round. The contents stayed in inventory-organized stacks throughout the summer. No moving the contents between locations, no risk of damage from a transfer.
Insurance: the contents were covered under our standard storage-insurance during the 90-day window — small additional fee, optional.
Hands-off summer: the student went to Chicago for her internship. Two phone-check-ins with our office during the summer (we confirm storage status every 30 days for student customers). No issues.
August re-delivery
Re-delivery to the new West Campus building
The new building — a different West Campus high-rise the student had signed for in late spring — had its own COI requirements + freight elevator booking pattern. We filed the new COI in late July, 48 hours before the August 15 re-delivery date.
August move-in week. Mid-August on UT West Campus is the densest move-in week of the year — thousands of students moving simultaneously. We start our August move-in days at 6:00am. The reason: securing the loading zone before any other vendor arrives.
Re-delivery day: 6:00am crew arrival. Loading zone secured. Freight elevator confirmed for our window. The truck (different truck than the May move; same crew where possible) arrived from the warehouse with the same inventory + same boxes from May.
4-hour re-delivery. Contents into the new building, furniture placed in the new apartment, inventory verified against the May manifest. One box missing at inventory verification — discovered to be at the warehouse (mislabeled during May intake). We brought it to her apartment the next morning.
No second move-out fee. The same-crew rotation eliminated the typical mid-summer "we have to charge a second move-out at the warehouse to truck-it-back" surcharge that some carriers charge.
Outcome
Standard student-summer pattern
Total cost: $1,180 ($405 storage + $590 May move-out + new West Campus re-delivery in August + $50 missing-box redelivery + $135 climate-controlled storage premium). Student-tier pricing.
The student's parents (in Massachusetts) had originally been skeptical about not flying to Austin to manage the storage themselves. We coordinated phone-check-ins with them during the summer, sent photo documentation of the warehouse storage condition, and the August re-delivery confirmation.
The pattern is standard for our student-customer base. Multiple UT students book identical patterns each year — May move-out, 90-day summer storage, August re-delivery to a new West Campus address.
“My parents wanted to fly down and supervise the storage. Muscleman Elite sent me photos of the warehouse layout. They charged the same rate going in and going out. The August move-in week was a zoo and they showed up at 6am to beat the crowd. I'm a junior now and I'll use them every May and August until I graduate.”

Outcome
How it landed.
The student began her senior year in the new West Campus apartment on August 15 — three days before classes started. The summer internship in Chicago had been productive. The transition between summer and academic life took less than 24 hours.
We've handled this exact pattern for dozens of UT students in subsequent summers — same student-customer references our office year after year.
