If you are pricing a move in Midland or Odessa, the hourly rate you get quoted matters less than how the bill is built. Here is how ours works in the Permian, with real numbers from the same pricing engine that produces the instant quote on our website.
The Permian Rate: $60 Per Mover, Per Hour
Local moves in Midland and Odessa start at $60 per mover per hour. Two movers is the smallest crew we send, so the real starting point is $120 an hour for two movers. A crew of three is $180 an hour, and a crew of four is $240 an hour.
Three things about that rate are worth knowing before you compare quotes:
- The truck is included. There is no separate truck fee or fuel charge stacked on top of the hourly rate.
- It is the same seven days a week. In Austin, our Saturday and Sunday rates run higher than weekdays. In the Permian they do not. A Saturday move in Midland costs the same per hour as a Tuesday.
- The minimum is $350. Very small jobs are protected by a $350 all-in minimum, not by a higher hourly rate.
The Trip Charge
Every local move carries a flat $75 trip charge per truck in the Permian. It covers the empty miles: the drive from our yard to your pickup and the drive back from your delivery address. The loaded drive between your two homes is part of the move itself, and it runs on the same hourly clock as the loading and unloading.
What Typical Midland and Odessa Moves Cost
These ranges come straight from our quote engine for a weekday or weekend move inside the Midland–Odessa area, with average furnishings, no stairs, and no packing:
- One-bedroom apartment: crew of 2, about 3¾ hours on the clock, $438–$527
- Two-bedroom apartment: crew of 3, about 4 hours, $641–$779
- 1,500 sq ft house: crew of 3, about 5¾ hours, $928–$1,136
- 2,200 sq ft house: crew of 4, about 6¼ hours, $1,311–$1,613
- 3,000 sq ft house: crew of 4 and two trucks, about 8¼ hours, $1,781–$2,180
The range is there because no estimate knows your house as well as you do. Your own quote moves with the things that actually change the clock: how full the rooms are, how much heavy furniture you have, whether everything is boxed and ready when the crew arrives, and stairs or long walks at either end.
For comparison, the same 2,200 sq ft house on a weekday in Austin comes out at $1,903–$2,344, because the Austin rate card is higher. If you are relocating between our two markets, you will see that difference on the quote.
Moves Out of the Basin
Once the full round trip runs past 200 miles, the move stops being billed on the hourly clock for the drive. Loading and unloading stay hourly. The highway drive is priced as a flat charge: round-trip drive hours, times the crew, at the same Permian rate. You are not paying for traffic stops on the hourly meter.
As an example from the engine, a one-bedroom apartment from Midland to the Austin or Dallas area comes out around $1,563–$1,652, and a 2,200 sq ft house around $3,636–$3,938.
Moves out of Texas are priced by the day instead: $2,000 per day for a two-person crew and truck, counting the loading days, the unloading days, and the travel days both ways. That number is the same whether you are leaving Midland or Austin. Our long-distance moving page covers how those moves run.
Specialty Items Are Flat Fees, Not Clock Time
Pianos, gun safes, pool tables, and hot tubs are priced as flat fees, so they never ride on the hourly clock. Every specialty item has a $300 minimum, and the fee is lower when the item goes along with a full move than when we move it by itself. Stairs on a piano or safe are priced per flight. See our piano movers and gun safe movers pages for what those jobs involve.
Coverage
Basic protection is included on every move. Under Basic, a mover's liability is 60 cents per pound per item, which does not go far on a sectional or a TV. If you want more, Elite Full-Value Protection costs 1% of the value you declare, from $15,000 up to $50,000, with a $1,000 deductible at every level. A $30,000 declaration is $300. You can choose it on your quote, and our insurance and credentials page has the rest of the detail.
What Raises the Number (and What Doesn't)
Things that add time, and so add cost:
- Rooms that are still being packed when the crew arrives
- Stairs, elevators, or a long walk from where the truck can park
- Lots of heavy or oversized furniture
- Disassembling and reassembling a lot of furniture
Things that do not change our Permian rate:
- Moving on a Saturday or Sunday
- Dust season. From February through May we run closed vans and wrap anything with a finished surface, and there is no premium for it. It is simply how we work the Permian.
Get Your Own Number
The fastest way to see your real price is the online quote. It uses the same engine as the numbers above, so you will get a range based on your home rather than a national average. Not everything fits a form, like a houseful of oilfield equipment, an estate, or an office. For those, call the Midland office and we will walk the job with you.
If you are new to the area, our moving to Midland guide and the Permian relocation playbook cover neighborhoods, schools, and timing. You can also see everything we do locally on the Midland and Odessa pages.
